Michigan is still looking for a superstar running back, even if that means looking in the 2014 class. The Wolverines offered a potential star on Wednesday in Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom).
The 6-foot-1, 191-pound running back has started to gain some serious interest, and was excited about the offer from Michigan.
"I called Coach (Dan) Ferrigno, and we've been talking about the offer for probably two weeks now," he said. "I was supposed to receive it last Sunday, but he just showed my tape to the running back coach. He loved it and Coach Ferrigno said 'We want to offer you a full-ride scholarship.'"
Mixon says he has already built a strong relationship with Ferrigno and is no stranger to Michigan being in his school. The Wolverines also recruited Mixon's 2013 teammate, Darrell Daniels.
Mixon is starting to hear from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and is hoping to hear from Alabama after sending in his highlight tape to the Crimson Tide coaches. While growing up with dream schools of USC, Oregon and Alabama, Mixon says he is open to anyone at this point and is looking for the right fit.
He has the size and ability the Michigan coaching staff is looking for in a running back, but what does Mixon think of his own game? He compares himself to one of the best running backs in the country.
"Think of me as another Adrian Peterson," he said. "I'm a big back that's elusive and can run you over. I have the whole package because I can block, catch and run the football."
While Mixon is still in the information gathering process, he says he plans on learning more about Michigan through Ferrigno and research and believes that Michigan is "up there" on his list.
