Defensive back Armani Reeves (West Roxbury, Mass./Catholic Memorial) confirmed that he's no longer committed to Penn State and that he has reopened his recruitment to Michigan and Ohio State.
Reeves said his in-home visit with Michigan coach Brady Hoke went well and that Hoke got a chance to talk with his mom and that she was impressed with him. He also said Ohio State coach Urban Meyer will be visiting on Monday and that Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison will be visiting on Tuesday.
"What has really impressed me is Coach Hoke, he's a great coach," Reeves said. "They had a great season this last year and it's a good school academically. I like that a lot, academics mean a lot to me. I get along with the players really well."
Reeves had an official visit to Ann Arbor on Jan. 13 and got to meet Mattison and said the defensive coordinator has been "talking on the phone every day now since I came home from my official. He was pretty excited about me."
However, there are a few pulls to Ohio State for the cornerback. He said Meyer has impressed him and that with a coach like him "you expect great things." Reeves also said he knows Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Everett Withers because Reeves had a family member who played for Withers when he was coaching at North Carolina. Additionally, high school teammate Cam Williams, his best friend since second grade, has recently committed to Ohio State.
"It would be different playing on a different team," Reeves said. "But it really doesn't affect my decision because we made a decision ever since we were being recruited D-I that we were going to make decisions based on our own best interests. So it really doesn't affect my decision."
Reeves hasn't made a timeline for the rest of his recruitment and said he's taking it "day by day."
"Both of them are really good schools," he said. "It's going to be a tough decision but when I do decide to make the decision and pull the trigger, I really can't go wrong."
