The emergence of freshman defensive back Blake Countess was huge for Michigan's secondary. His presence on the field and on the roster also might help the Wolverines on the recruiting trail.
Countess hails from Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md., which is known for producing talent year in and year out. The Michigan coaching staff already has an offer out to another Good Counsel defensive back in 2013 prospect Kendall Fuller and recently offered another teammate.
Michigan became the 15th team to offer linebacker and running back Dorian O'Daniel. The 6-foot, 200-pound backer is starting to emerge as one of the top prospects in the country.
"I'm just being patient with everything," O'Daniel said. "My highlight tape just came out so hopefully coaches will get a chance to check that out," he said. "I'll just let things fall into place and take things from there."
Countess and O'Daniel are close friends, and the ESPNU 150 watch list prospect soon could be looking to his former teammate for advice.
"If I ever had any questions about Michigan's program I could just call him up and ask," he said. "I haven't talked to him recently because he's busy preparing for his bowl game."
O'Daniel doesn't have too many questions yet as he is just starting to get into his recruitment. However, Michigan does have him intrigued because of what Countess has already told him about Ann Arbor.
"I would probably ask him about the atmosphere, because I asked him once before how he liked it and he said he loved it," he said. "That definitely makes me curious as to what else they have to offer, and last time he was home he was begging us to come down and check it out."
He plans on taking his time with his recruitment as more and more schools jump in the mix. Schools such as Florida State, Tennessee, Michigan State and Clemson are just a few of the schools that O'Daniel would like to see offer as well.
Having so many teammates go through the recruiting process before him, including Countess, should help make his recruitment that much easier.
