Michigan No. 8 in coaches poll

August, 2, 2012
In his second season at Michigan, coach Brady Hoke has already done something not done for five years -- start a season with his team in the Top 10.

Michigan was ranked No. 8 in the USA Today preseason coaches' poll and received 1,023 points -- 32 less than No. 7 Florida State and 42 more than No. 9 South Carolina.

The last time the Wolverines were ranked this high to start a season was 2007, when they were No. 5 in the country before losing to FCS powerhouse Appalachian State in the season opener.

Michigan will face four opponents in the preseason Top 25: No. 2 Alabama, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 16 Nebraska and No. 24 Notre Dame. The Wolverines are the highest-ranked team in the Big Ten.
