BRADENTON, Fla. – ESPN 150 athlete Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) just wrapped up a trip of schools that included visits to Notre Dame, Michigan and Clemson. The 6-foot, 175-pound junior described what he liked about each program.
Notre Dame: “It’s a very tradition-oriented school. I saw a lot of religious people walking around there, like a lot of nuns and other people involved with the church. Overall it was a laid-back place, though. Everyone was happy. I met with the academic advisor and he was great. He laid out everything for me and it’s a school with great academics and great athletics."
Michigan: “As soon as we got into town we could see the JumboTron with the big M and the stadium. And it’s the biggest stadium I’ve ever stepped foot in. I took a picture next to the JumboTron and then went inside talked to the coaches. The coaches were a lot of fun and I saw some of the facilities, like the weight room and stuff, before meeting with the academic advisor."
Clemson: “I’m not sure I loved Clemson. I mean love is a strong word but I liked Clemson a lot. It’s a family atmosphere and they take care of each other. They will give you all the tools to succeed academically as well.”
The next wing of Bailey’s trips will take him to throughout the Southeast and to several schools that are also thought to be a major player for the multi-faceted athlete.
“I’m heading to Georgia, Florida State and probably Arkansas and Auburn in the next few weeks,” Bailey said. “I’m really looking forward to those trips, I might work out a little, we’ll see.”
After the next set of trips Bailey is looking at cutting his schools down from 13 to five before beginning training camp to start his senior season.
“I’m going to cut it down to eight schools after Sunday,” Bailey said. “And I will probably name a top five after my next set of visits. I’m just going to keep knocking off schools until I find the right one.”
Bailey isn’t sure of a decision date yet, but it could be during his season or at the Under Armour All-America Game in January. Either way he knows what he’s looking for in his final school.
“I’m looking to go in and compete for playing time,” Bailey said. “I want a place with great academics, an active campus and I want the coaches that offer me to be there for the entire four-year stretch.
