The top-seeded Michigan hockey team will face off against the second-seeded Western Michigan Broncos at 7:35 Saturday night in the CCHA tournament championship game.
The Wolverines are looking to win their 10th CCHA tournament. Michigan coach Red Berenson has led Michigan to the finals in 19 of the last 21 seasons, and the Wolverines last won the title in 2010.
Western Michigan beat Michigan in the semifinals last season before advancing to the finals, where they dropped a 5-2 decision to Miami (Ohio).
The Broncos average 30 shots and three goals per game, and are led offensively by junior right wing Dane Walters. They also boast the CCHA's best defenseman, sophomore Dan DeKeyser.
Other than the championship that’s on the line, there are also NCAA tournament seeding implications at stake. The Wolverines are ranked fourth (USCHO) while the Broncos hold the 14th spot. The NCAA selection show is at noon Sunday on ESPNU.
