ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a rush of surprise, joy and exhaustion, junior forward Chris Brown slammed himself against the glass in front of the Michigan student section before being tackled by teammate Jeff Rohrkemper. He planted himself firmly on the ice, and when he finally looked up from where he had landed Brown was surprised to see his teammates skating over to him.
After nearly 83 minutes of hockey, his goal in the second overtime had given the No. 5 Michigan hockey team a 2-1 win over No. 17 Notre Dame in the first game of a best-of-3 series in the CCHA quarterfinals.
"It's good to know that we can get that kind of energy at the end of a long game like that," Brown joked.
The bench had unloaded, the fans had erupted and eventually Brown found his way out from the bottom of a very large dogpile of exhausted hockey players.
