ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Not many college football coaching staffs can boost a defensive coordinator who guided linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. Or one that employs a man whose defense once finished third in the NFL.

But Michigan can. And for several prospects in the Wolverines' 2012 and 2013 classes, defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and his resume have been a big draw.

"That's a huge pull because he has been around NFL players and he knows what it takes to get a college kid to the next level," 2013 defensive tackle recruit Eddie Vanderdoes said. "Obviously, you're going to have a lot of confidence in someone like that. It’s a really good feeling knowing you have a really good defensive coordinator like that."
