Michigan basketball to face WVU in December

March, 6, 2012
A spokesperson for The University of Michigan confirmed that the Michigan men's basketball team will face off against West Virginia on Dec. 15, 2012 as a part of the inaugural Brooklyn Hoops Winter Hoops Festival. The game will be hosted in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

It should be an interesting game for Michigan coach John Beilein, who left West Virginia in 2007 after taking the head coaching job at Michigan. Bob Huggins replaced Beilein and has since led the Mountaineers to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

It will be the first meeting between the two schools.

"Playing in the new Barclays Center will truly be a great opportunity for us," Michigan head coach John Beilein said in a press release. "Michigan has such a strong alumni base in New York City and surrounding areas that we could not turn down the chance to play in front of them. I have many fond memories of my time at West Virginia. Facing them and their tremendous coach, Bob Huggins, will give Michigan another opportunity to play against one of the very best teams in college basketball today."
