Recruiting: Where U-M stands

Signing day is fast approaching, and true to form it has already been a hectic few weeks leading up to Wednesday. The Michigan coaching staff has limited remaining scholarships, but specific targets to fill those spots.

Missing out on offensive lineman Josh Garnett (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) to Stanford was a big deal, but there are still a few top level prospects Michigan is after.

Jordan Diamond (Chicago/Simeon) will be announcing his decision on Friday and is down to Michigan, Arkansas, Auburn and Wisconsin after he officially cut Ohio State from his list. Diamond just took his final official visit to Wisconsin and should be sitting down with his mother to figure out his choice in the next few days.

Michigan coaches Brady Hoke and Darrell Funk were in-home Saturday night with offensive lineman Alex Kozan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian), who could be announcing his decision as early as Sunday. Michigan is in Kozan's top three with Iowa and Auburn but might have had some ground to make up to the Hawkeyes.

Rutgers commit Chris Muller (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Senior) said via text on Sunday that he's "50-50" when asked if he was going to stick with Rutgers. There is mutual interest between Muller and Michigan, so it will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes.

Tight end Sam Grant (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) has narrowed his list to Michigan and Oklahoma and should be making his decision known very soon. The three-star tight end has been recruited heavily by both the Wolverines and Sooners in the past few weeks. Distance might factor into Grant's decision, but the Sooners' success has been a draw.

The latest addition to the recruiting board has been three-star defensive tackle Willie Henry (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville), who took a visit to Ann Arbor on Saturday. Henry received an offer from the Wolverines and now has a tough choice ahead of him.

Michigan is likely going to try to land whomever it can from this list, and bank the scholarships that aren't used for the next class. It will be a best player available type of situation as we get closer to signing day.
