Hoke has success in California

October, 24, 2011
Michigan coach Brady Hoke's ties to California from his days at San Diego State University have been paying off so far. Michigan alreadyhas secured the No. 30 player in the Golden State with four-star offensive lineman Erik Magnuson (Carlsbad/La Costa Canyon), and the coaching staff is looking to add more.

Wide receiver Jordan Payton (Westlake Village/Oaks Christian) has had Michigan among his top schools ever since he decommitted from USC. Payton is fresh off of a visit to Notre Dame this past weekend, and his decision, which could come as early as Tuesday, might come down to the Wolverines and the Fighting Irish.

Another USC decommit whom Michigan is now targeting is the No. 1 player in California, four-star offensive lineman Arik Armstead (Elk Grove/Pleasant Grove). Armstead has stated that Michigan might be one of the schools he takes an official visit to, but he hasn't set his visits in stone yet. Michigan will be taking one more offensive lineman in the 2012 class and would gladly fill that spot with Armstead.
