COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Outside linebacker Jamal Davis II (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) has a favorite.
Well, sort of.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Davis is a big fan of Michigan -- he grew up emulating a certain Heisman Trophy winner -- so the Wolverines are his favorite along with Ohio State.
Michigan might be a bit out in front though, as Davis will head to the Wolverines' June 17 camp after participating in Michigan State’s camp the day before.
“Coach [Greg] Mattison felt if I went to their camp and they saw me do my thing in camp that would push them to get an offer,” he said. “I feel like I can do things there.
“My favorite player growing up was Charles Woodson and he went there. I’ve grown up idolizing him. I really like they’re defense and Coach Mattison felt that I was a good fit for them and could come in and contribute, so I felt good about that.”
Last season, Davis recorded 68 tackles -- 11 for loss -- and had three sacks.
It’s drawn interest from around the country as Bowling Green, Buffalo, Indiana, Kent State, Louisville, Toledo and Western Michigan have offered.
Almost all of the Big Ten is after him as well as teams like Georgia, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia are vying for his services.
As for the Buckeyes, they haven’t gone away either.
“I like Ohio State, too,” Davis said. “I’m from the Buckeye State, so I don’t want to discriminate. Mike Vrabel came down and said he still wants me to stay in touch with them. I’m going to try to make it to their camp, but I don’t know.
