FRISCO, Texas -- Soso Jamabo (Plano, Texas/Plano West) would have liked to be a part of this weekend’s Nike EYBL series playing with the Texas Titans. With a sling on his right shoulder, however, the 2015 two-sport star was reduced to watching the Titans on the bench, offering instruction to teammates and being the team’s biggest supporter.

For the rest of the spring and most of the summer, Jamabo’s focus will be on rehabbing after undergoing shoulder surgery on April 30. Jamabo broke some bones and damaged some ligaments in his shoulder during a Texas Class 5A Division-I state quarterfinal playoff. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete is expected to miss 6-10 weeks but is projected to return a couple of weeks before Plano West’s first scrimmage in August.

“It’s early in the process, but it’s going well,” Jamabo said of the rehab process. “I’m just trying to get the shoulder back to usual, if not better. Right now, I’m just doing basic stuff and keep everything as minimal as possible.”

Exactly what kind of football player will Plano West look to see back on the field? Jamabo’s first rush as a varsity player was against Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus on Aug. 31. It went for 12 yards. His second rush: A 75-yard touchdown run.

Since then, Soso has been ... well ... anything but.

Only the shoulder injury managed to slow the electrifying 2015 running back down. He rushed for a team-leading 1,697 yards and 24 touchdowns and also caught 20 passes for 453 yards -- an average of almost 23 yards per catch -- and four touchdowns. On the basketball court, Jamabo averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 11 games.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - While many up-and-coming Division I prospects spend their summers going to camps or taking unofficial visits to places to get a better feel for the recruiting process, 2014 safety T'kevian Rockwell (Wylie, Texas/Wylie) has taken a different approach.

The 6-1 Rockwell hasn't been to any camps this summer, but instead has been working out on his own.

"My dad wanted me not to be like a prima donna," Rockwell said. "He wanted me to focus more so on what I'm doing so I can be good and then next year, coaches will respond more to me on what I'm doing and what I've done in the past."

Monday was a busy day for commitments in the West region, but defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes (Auburn, Calif./Placer) isn't exactly ready to jump into the commitment scene. More than half of the top 30 players in the West have already made verbal commitments, but Vanderdoes is taking things slowly. On Monday, the 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman took to Twitter to release a list of his top 15 schools.

Alabama, Baylor, California, Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA, USC and Washington all made the cut. Vanderdoes included in his tweet that he will be cutting that down to a top 10 group soon.

When ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive end Christian Lacouture (College Station, Texas/A&M Consolidated) committed to Texas A&M in late January 2011, he did so because of the coaching staff.

Kevin Sumlin, however, was not the head coach at the time. Mike Sherman was. Lacouture has yet to really get to know the new A&M staff, and he felt his commitment was something of a disservice to A&M and other schools interested until he had a chance to further bond with that acquaintanceship.

Lacouture decommitted from A&M on Friday but said the Aggies still are high on his list. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end also said that Michigan, LSU and Missouri -- three schools who have offered -- are in the hunt, as well.
