Jabrill Peppers recruitment timeline

By Tom VanHaaren

Defensive back Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, N.J./Paramus Catholic), the No. 2 ranked player in the country, is set to make his decision at 5 p.m. on Sunday on ESPNU.

Here’s a look at how his recruitment has progressed along the way to his decision.

Oct. 24, 2012: Peppers names a top five of Stanford, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State, and he says the list is in order.

Peppers on why Stanford is in the lead: "Aspect of life after football. Hopefully if I make it to be able to play on Sundays, by the time I'm done playing it's still going to be early and I'll still have my whole life to live. I see the big picture."

Feb. 20: Peppers takes a visit to Penn State and comes away impressed.

From ESPN.com’s Jared Shanker: "Partridge said Penn State seemed like a good fit for Peppers because he finds Bill O'Brien to be incredibly straightforward, just like the ESPN Watch List prospect [the first player rankings had yet to be released]. The Paramus Catholic coach said he was also extremely impressed with O'Brien and the type of season he had. Between that and the facilities, he felt Peppers would enjoy himself."

March 19: Peppers narrows his list to four.

The top four are Stanford, Ohio State, Michigan and LSU. Notre Dame, USC and Penn State have fallen by the wayside, but the Cardinal is still out in front despite no visit.

April 3: A visit to Michigan proves valuable in his recruitment.

Partridge on the Michigan visit: “Jabrill grew up a Michigan fan, so this is a huge experience for him whether he goes there or not. You should have seen him when he went out on the field. He was running around like a little kid.”

April 5: After the Ann Arbor trip, Peppers heads to Columbus for a visit to Ohio State.

Partridge on the Ohio State visit: “They liked it. It was a very impressive place, a very impressive program. The coaches are great guys. Everything from head to toe was great.”

April 13: LSU receives a visit from the No. 1 DB in the nation.

May 8: The top four schools change for Peppers.

Michigan, Stanford, Penn State and LSU are the schools at the top. The Wolverines make a huge leap after his visit to Ann Arbor, and the Nittany Lions are back in the hunt.

May 15: Peppers sets his decision date for May 26.

His top list for the announcement in alphabetical order is LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers and Stanford. The top prospect has essentially shut down his recruitment in terms of media information, which has caused various speculation on his decision.
