LSU after Penn State LB commit Wangler
By Jared Shanker
An offer from an SEC school often makes recruits take a step back and re-evaluate a top group or a commitment.
That's not the case with Jared Wangler (Warren, Mich./De La Salle). LSU offered the 6-foot-2, 218-pound outside linebacker Wednesday, but he remains committed to Penn State.
"It's really humbling," Wangler said, "but nothing's changed."
Wangler committed to the Nittany Lions on an unofficial visit May 10. Wangler was making his second trip to State College, and he knew going into his visit he would be pledging to PSU coach Bill O'Brien.
He was in a similar situation going into that second Penn State visit, too. Ready to commit on his trip, nearby Michigan State offered on a visit to East Lansing just days before. It was not enough to deter him from committing to the Lions, and the LSU offer is not enough to get him to waver.
The Tigers gave it their best shot, however. LSU coach Les Miles used his one spring phone call to contact Wangler directly and offered on the phone.
"He watched my film and was very very impressed with how well I play in space," Wangler said.
It is Wangler's first SEC offer and fourth from a BCS school.
