WR Williams decommits, reopens process

By Gary Laney

BATON ROUGE, La. -- It was just 10 days ago that LSU fans were excited to have landed junior college receiver D'haquille Williams (Reserve, La./Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College).

Not so fast.

Williams decommitted Tuesday, telling GeauxTigerNation in a text message that he wants to "explore other options."

Williams was considered one of Louisiana's top prospects in the Class of 2011 coming out of Reserve's East St. John High School, then enrolled in junior college as an initial nonqualifier.

Williams has offers from several top schools. He also said LSU remains in his top five along with USC, Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M.

With Williams no longer in the class, LSU has one wide receiver commitment for 2014, from Tony Upchurch (Pearland, Texas/Dawson). The Tigers are after several in-state receivers in the ESPN 150, including Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, La./John Curtis) and Trey Quinn (Lake Charles, La./Barbe), the Nos. 2 and 3 receivers nationally.
