Top safety Adams gets big invite, big offer
By Damon Sayles
ALLEN, Texas -- It was a pretty good Sunday overall for ESPN Watch List safety Jamal Adams (Lewisville, Texas/Hebron). By 2:15 p.m., he earned an invitation to The Opening after a solid performance at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp. By 3 p.m., he had an offer he was hoping to get.
Adams was offered by LSU and inched even closer to the 30-offer mark. This offer, however, was a big deal to him for a couple of reasons. First, LSU is one of the schools he has been high on. Second, LSU includes commits Chris Hardeman (Houston/Alief Taylor) and Edward Paris Jr. (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview), two ESPN Watch List cornerbacks from Texas hoping to add Adams to the 2014 class.
“It feels good. LSU has always been a dream school for me,” Adams said. “I’ve always liked the tradition. Ed’s been telling me, and Chris has been telling me I need to commit, but I’m going to take my time with everything. I’m going to definitely check out every school.”
The offer added to a day on which Adams already was one of the most talked-about players at the Dallas NFTC. A 6-foot, 199-pound defensive back, Adams put on a show in drills and showed why schools such as Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State and others have extended offers.
As for The Opening invitation, Adams said it was a welcomed surprise and another opportunity for him to fulfill his football dreams.
“All I have to say is, thank you, Jesus,” Adams said of the invite. “It’s a blessing, honestly. There’s nobody who can bless me as much as Him. I’m just really blessed to have it.”
