Watch List OT Bauer piling up offers
By Damon Sayles
As ESPN Watch List offensive tackle Andy Bauer (St. Louis/ De Smet) creeps up on 40 offers, he is reminded of two important yet unofficial rules to the recruiting game.
Network, first of all; and second, have fun.
Bauer has been making his rounds across the country taking both of those rules into consideration. The 6-foot-6, 304-pound lineman most recently visited Ole Miss with his family two weekends ago and hopes to take in a few other schools during the spring.
The Ole Miss trip was memorable for Bauer, and he admits the Rebels are one of the schools high on his list.
“Matt Luke is the guy recruiting me, and I talk to him like two or three times a week,” Bauer said of Ole Miss’ offensive line coach. “He’s a great person; I can talk to him all day. I really enjoyed my visit there. Ole Miss is up there on my list, especially with the class they just signed.”
Bauer has offers from coast to coast, including Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Kansas State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Florida State and Texas A&M. He picked up his latest offer from Arizona on Wednesday.
“To be honest, I really don’t know that much about them yet, but I do have family who lives in Phoenix,” Bauer said. “Arizona is a beautiful area. I know [offensive line] coach [Jim] Michalczik is there, and he’s a very respected offensive line coach. Plus, they play in the Pac-12 against quality opponents every week.”
Of Bauer’s 38 offers, 12 are from the SEC.
