Watch List DB Paris closes in on decision

By Derek Tyson

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -- Watch List cornerback Ed Paris (Arlington, Texas/Timberview) is closing in on his decision.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound athlete has a top three of Texas, LSU and Florida and could make his decision some time next week.

"Texas, LSU and Florida are in my top three, but it's up in the air right now," Paris said.

Paris, who is competing at the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 Southeast regional tournament, said he will likely take a trip over to Florida to check out their campus after the tournament concludes on Sunday.

"I've wanted to take a visit to Florida, so maybe after this tournament I'll go visit Florida," Paris said. "I like how physical they are. Even though they lost their bowl game, they were hitting -- they were hitting a lot of people. I like their DB scheme. I feel like I could fit in with their program."

A native of New Orleans, Paris said there is more to like about LSU than it just being his home town.

"I'm from New Orleans," Paris said. "I like a lot about LSU. I like their defense, I like their coaches, I like the facilities, I just like it all around."

Paris said a decision could be coming soon.

"After this whole tournament is over with I'll sit down and talk to my mother about it," he said. "Then I'll call those top three coaches up and commit."

Though he will be making an early decison, Paris said he plans to take all five official visits. Paris said whichever school he chooses, will be getting a unique player at the cornerback position.

"I'm not like a normal corner," he said. "I'm 6-1, I have long arms, I can reach anything -- I have great ball skills, I'm fast and I'm physical. It's all there."

Paris is planning on enrolling early.
