Lawson weighing more official visits

By Gary Laney

ESPN 300 prospect Tevin Lawson (Denham Springs, La./Denham Springs) might still be a week away from deciding his future.

After visiting Kentucky over the weekend, Lawson will fly to TCU for an official visit Wednesday morning, his high school coach, Dru Nettles said. He is also pondering whether to stay in Texas for an official visit with the Longhorns over the weekend.

"It sounds like he had a good trip to Kentucky," Nettles said of Lawson, who projects as a defensive tackle by the schools that are recruiting him. "The interest from the big schools has been picking up. He's turned down Oklahoma, Miami and Oklahoma State."

Why is a 2013 player still looking? A long-time LSU commit, Lawson was told by LSU that his offer would be changed to a grayshirt offer, citing potential problems with a summer school class that could affect his initial eligibility.

Denham Springs does not think he'll have an eligibility issue and several major programs that have extended offers since he re-opened the recruiting process seem to agree.

After learning of LSU's decision, Lawson visited Louisiana-Lafayette then Kentucky. TCU will be his fourth visit and Texas could be his fifth and final visit.

"He can still take unofficials," Nettles said. "He could take a trip down to Louisiana Tech."

Nettles said LSU coach Les Miles will visit Lawson sometime early next week, adding that LSU has not stopped recruiting Lawson. After that, Lawson might make a decision, or he could take unofficial visits and extend the search.

"It comes down to whether he wants to stay big (program), but further away," Nettles said. "Hopefully, early next week we can get this wrapped up."
