DeSean Smith TweetChat

By Gary Laney

GeauxTigerNation took your questions via Twitter, Facebook and email for DeSean Smith, the ESPN 150 tight end who will sign with LSU on Wednesday.

Here's a little background: Smith, a 6-foot-5 hybrid tight end, played in a wide-open passing offense at Lake Charles (La.) Barbe. Smith, and Barbe, put up big numbers and he impressed with his length, speed for his size and remarkable hands.

Here are your questions and the answers from a "hungry and humble" Smith:

DeSean Smith
DeSean Smith was an explosive weapon at Lake Charles (La.) Barbe, something the tight end hopes to carry over to LSU.
From Mark in Littleton, Colo. (via Facebook): We've all seen highlights of you catching passes. You gonna get "Moffit-ized" (a reference to LSU strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt) and open up some holes for Jeremy Hill then (Leonard) Fournette later on in your career?

DeSean Smith: Yes sir, I will and I will also help lead the tigers to a national championship by being a leader; but not only on the field, but of the field, also.

From Renee (Facebook): Bucs in the house (Barbe High reference)!!! Are you working your boy (and Barbe teammate) Trey Quinn? I hope you're in his ear DAILY!

DS: I sure am working Trey to my best ability. He's a great player and will be a big help if he commits.

From Joe (Denham Springs, La., via email): Do you think you'll play as a true freshman? Do you think you might start?

DS: I do think I will play as a true freshman and also get a chance to start. I'm definitely going to work my butt off and earn my playing time.

I'm not going in there to joke around. I want to make it to the next level so every rep I take will put me closer and closer to my dream. I'm going to take advantage of this opportunity and nothing will slow me down. I'm hungry and humble so expect to see me out there on the field next year.

From Gary: Talk about the bond between the quarterbacks and receivers in the class.

DS: The bond between us is something very special. I think that we have the best athletes and if we start to bond and work as a team everything will soon fall in place. I can't wait!

From John in Sulphur (Facebook): Who are you most excited about playing with the next four years in the signing class?

DS: I'm most excited about being able to play with this whole class of 2013. It takes a team to win and I definitely can't wait to play with the best signing class that LSU has had in a while. Looking forward to your support. Thanks.
