Carter getting home-state press

By Gary Laney

Nebraska tight end commit Cethan Carter plays basketball for Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel, so he might be comfortable with the full-court pressure he's receiving from a local school.

"LSU has been recruiting him hard," Rummel coach Jay Roth said. "They've been by to see him a lot."

The three-star tight end committed to Nebraska Jan. 17 after a visit to Lincoln the previous weekend. At the time he had offer from LSU, but it was just a grayshirt offer.

That has now changed, Roth said.

"As of (Wednesday) when they visited him, it was a full offer, like the kid from Curtis (Duke Riley) got," Roth said.

Both Carter and Riley go to school in the New Orleans suburbs in Jefferson Parish. Both led their teams to undefeated state championships in their respective enrollment classes. Both initially had grayshirt offers, but that has changed.

But unlike the previously uncommitted Riley, who accepted LSU's regular scholarship offer on the spot Wednesday, Carter was staying firm with his Nebraska commitment.

"As of this morning, he was solid on Nebraska," Roth said.

Carter is a versatile tight end who can line up at fullback or move around at tight end in an H-back role. LSU has a prep tight end commitment from ESPN 150 pick Desean Smith (Lake Charles, La./Barbe) and a 2014 tight end commitment from ESPN Watch list pick Jacory Washington (Westlake, La.). LSU also brought in junior college transfer Logan Stokes at tight end.
