Four-star DT Bain makes call

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- ESPN 150 defensive lineman Maquedius Bain (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University School) wants to be the next in line.

Defensive tackle Maquedius Bain has a good initial burst and raw strength, scouts say.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound tackle committed to LSU after today’s Under Armour All-America Game practice at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports, choosing the Tigers over Oklahoma, Louisville, Miami and Marshall.

Bain, a four-star prospect once committed to Florida State, said that the legacy of LSU defensive linemen helped steer him toward the Tigers. He took his official visit to LSU on Dec. 14 and said that the trip convinced him that LSU was the place for him.

“I had a fantastic trip and when I was there I saw everything that LSU had to offer academically and in football,” Bain added. “The coaches are great guys but they make you work hard so it’s a lot like the coaches at U-School.”

Bain is LSU’s 24th verbal commitment in the recruiting class of 2013 and its fifth ESPN 150 prospect. He is the fifth defensive lineman the Tigers have taken in this class.

A former basketball player, Bain spent much of his senior year on the offensive line, something that University coach Roger Harriott believes will help his learning curve at the next level.

“Quay understands both sides of the ball so he is going to recognize some things that the offensive linemen show him at the next level,” said Harriott, who is on the coaching staff for the Under Armour All-America Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET Friday live on ESPN from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. “I think it’s a great move for him and LSU will be very happy with him.”
