Four-star S Willis eyes final official
By Corey Dowlar
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- With four officials already done, Priest Willis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) is trying to figure out his fifth and final trip in the next couple of weeks.
Three schools, all from the Pac-12 Conference, are in the mix.
"I have one more left, but I still have to decide which one I am going to take," he said today while at Under Armour All-America Game registration at Disney's Yacht Club Resort. "It is going to be either ASU, UCLA or Washington."
The ESPN 150 safety visited Florida State in November. He enjoyed his trip to see the Seminoles play and likes the idea of playing in the Sunshine State.
"It was a great visit. Marvin Bracy was my host," he said. "He was a great guy, fast. The experience is nice and the state of Florida is nice."
Nebraska, Virginia and LSU, respectively, also received officials.
“Nebraska, the Blackshirts,” he began. “Toby Wright, my trainer, he is from Nebraska so he tells me all about it. Virginia, my cousin plays there, Demeitre Brim goes there. That was a nice visit. It is a beautiful place.
"LSU, what else can I say. It was a great visit.”
Wearing an LSU shirt and socks, Willis might have silently indicated a favorite. But when asked he denied the notion, claiming it was just a matter of convenience.
"It was football, I saw it and I just threw it in my bag," he said.
Willis has an established criteria from which he will make his selection.
"All-around academics, where I am comfortable," Willis said. "Do I feel at home? Are they always one me? I want my coaches to be like that."
But for a week, at least, he will try to forget about recruiting and play some football one more time before college.
"I am looking forward to the experience," he said of preparations for the UA Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET Friday live on ESPN from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. "All this new gear that we get to try out. It is all updated material that people haven't been able to use yet. I am glad to try this gear on and play."
After checking out the aesthetics, eventually it will be time to prove a point. Against great competition, Willis will be looking forward to the opportunity to test himself.
"I am always up for competition," he said. "Mixing it up, I am always ready for anything they throw at me."
