ESPN 150 S Conner talks Ole Miss visit

By Dave Hooker

Antonio Conner saw the improvement at Ole Miss when he visited the Oxford campus this weekend. The state's top prospect has been impressed.

The Rebels beat Mississippi State 41-24 to become bowl eligible at 6-6 and 3-5 in the SEC on Saturday. The also have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation under first-year coach Hugh Freeze.

Currently, the Rebels' 2013 class ranks 21st in the nation. It could get much better.

The Rebels are thought to be on the verge of landing the nation's No. 1 prospect: Robert Nkemdiche from Loganville (Ga.) Grayson. Ole Miss is also thought to be in strong position to land the nation's No. 1 receiver: Laquon Treadwell from Crete (Ill.) Montroe. Conner said both would boost the Rebels' class but that each, including himself, will make his own decision.

"Not at all," Conner said if one prospects decision would affect another. "It's their pick."

Conner is being recruited by Tyrone Nix, who is Ole Miss' defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Conner has also said he has a strong relationship with first-year head coach Hugh Freeze.

The four-star safety has said he will take all five of his official visits. His finalists are Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia and LSU. He said he has no plans currently.
