Popular OL Brandon Kublanow shifts plans

5/8/2012

Georgia Tech was the first program to offer Brandon Kublanow (Alpharetta, Ga./Walton) back in September, and another offer has arrived for the 6-3, 290-pound offensive lineman seemingly every two weeks since.

“The process has been pretty crazy for me,” Kublanow said. “It was kind of slow at first, and then right after our season ended things took off and now I am still getting offers by the day.”

Kublanow said this spring that his head coach had informed some prospective schools that they need not bother offering, as the dominating blocker was satisfied with the 16 options he already had.

A week ago, Kublanow started making arrangements with his school to announce his commitment, with a possible decision date in late May. But in the following few days Kublanow was caught off guard … twice.

“Up until spring I had a couple schools were going to be my top and I would pick one on May 21,” Kublanow said. “But after getting offers from LSU and Florida State, it had made me realize that it's time to step back and look at my options and make sure I visit everywhere I want to see. After I am able to visit my top schools one more time then I should be ready to make my decision.”

Known as a mauler who punishes defensive linemen until the whistle is blown, Kublanow says more than 20 schools dropped by during the first week of the evaluation period.

Getting to this point has not been without sacrifice for the Cobb County resident. Kublanow says a typical offseason day is lifting at school for two hours, speed and agility for an hour-and-a-half after school, then back to the gym for another three hours.

“It has been a crazy process, but it has also been a long road to it as well,” Kublanow said. “I have spent countless hours in the gym and training to get to where I am today. It is rough but it is what I have to do.”
