Board approves Tiger Stadium expansion

BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proposal Friday afternoon to expand Tiger Stadium.

The proposal, announced in a press release last week by LSU Athletics, will increase the capacity of the stadium's south end zone to "near or above" 100,000.

Death Valley will get to that number with the addition of 60 new suites and approximately 3,000 club seats above the existing south end zone seating. On top of that will go another 1,500 general public seats. A number of standing-room-only tickets will be made available in the south end zone when the expansion is completed -- though the exact number is as yet unknown.

With the proposal approved, construction should begin this fall, with an eye for completion by summer 2014.
