To gear up for 2013 national signing day, GeauxTigerNation's Gary Laney will break down every commitment in the Tigers' 2013 recruiting class.
Vitals: WR Quantavius Leslie, Hinds (Miss.) Community College, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds.
ESPN Grade: No grade, 4-star prospect
Picked LSU over: A ton of SEC offers, including Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee along with programs from other parts of the country like Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Washington.
State of the position: The Tigers will return receivers who caught 144 of 150 passes caught by wide receivers this season. In Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, Jr., LSU will have proven SEC wideouts. What LSU lacks is size on the outside, something Leslie brings, and maturity and experience, something he could also bring.
Pros: Talk and lanky, Leslie, who signed with West Virginia out of high school, could give deep ball-loving quarterback Zach Mettenberger the big, downfield target LSU lacked this season. The Tigers, once full of big receivers like Dwayne Bowe and Rueben Randle, need that element in coming years. Leslie caught 28 passes for 523 yards and 10 touchdowns in his sophomore season at Hinds.
Cons: Did not improve from his freshman and to his sophomore season and saw Ole Miss commit Quadarias Mireles become the team's leading receiver ahead of him. He failed to graduate at the end of the fall semester, which puts a damper on LSU's plan to get him in for spring practice. If he is not available to come to LSU in the spring, it's not clear if LSU will continue to have a need for him in the class.
Expected impact: If he comes, he figures to have a role in the LSU offense because of the Tigers' need for a big wide receiver downfield. But he'd have to work hard to make it more than a niche, given the work Landry, Beckham, Kadron Boone and James Wright have put in to establish themselves in the Tigers offense.
