Another week, another set of high profile games to watch in the state. This is more or less the last week of the season before district play kicks into gear, so it's one of the last chances to see matchups between big names across different divisions in the state.

Salmen vs. East Feliciana: Salmen receiver Chuck Baker should have a bit more success against East Feliciana after being completely shut down by a strong Edna Karr defense last weekend. East Feliciana doesn't boast as much overall talent as Karr, but it is the home base for the state's top player, Kendell Beckwith. Beckwith said he expects to play Friday night despite undergoing an MRI for a shoulder injury on Monday, but we'll see. When I told Baker that Beckwith might miss the proceedings with an injury, he responded, "He'll be ready."

Destrehan vs. Dutchtown: Destrehan wide receiver Rickey Jefferson returns to the scene of the accident this weekend -- in theory at least. This year's game is at Dutchtown, and therefore not on the same field, but it's the same matchup that cost Jefferson the rest of his junior season in 2011. Jefferson tore his ACL while trying to stretch a short gain into a touchdown against the Griffins. Dutchtown isn't the juggernaut it was last fall, but the Griffins are still ranked in the top 20 of the Class 5A power rankings at No. 19. Destrehan is No. 16.

Winnfield vs. North De Soto: Another big test for LSU defensive end commitment Michael Patterson and his team. Winnfield is undefeated and ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, while North De Soto is also unbeaten and ranked No. 8 in Class 3A. The Tigers dispatched Westlake and LSU tight end target Jacory Washington, 21-0, last weekend. This time last year Winnfield downed North De Soto, 35-20.
