Beckwith, Smith attend LSU camp

6/5/2012

BATON ROUGE, La. – After spending the weekend at Alabama's camp, Louisiana's top 2013 player, athlete Kendell Beckwith, worked out Tuesday at the third day of the LSU's football camp.

Beckwith is listed as an athlete, but projects to play linebacker, the position he played during seven-on-seven drills Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder showed nice cover skills and the impressive physique that has him ranked as the nation's No. 16 prospect.

Also at the camp Tuesday was ESPN 150 cornerback Maurice Smith of Sugarland, Texas/Dulles.

Smith, the No. 12-ranked player in Texas, has a long offer list that includes five of the seven teams in the SEC West, along with programs like Texas and Oklahoma.

Smith wasn't the only Houston-area prospect to arrive Tuesday. Reggie Chevis, a four-star linebacker from Houston/Sharpstown was also there with his long offer sheet that includes LSU, among others.

As usual, the June LSU camp has been light on major prospects, though heavy in overall numbers. Some top-end prospects are committed to summer programs, like 7-on-7 leagues. Others are still in school in states like Florida, where the school year lasts weeks longer than in Louisiana.

The camp concludes Wednesday. LSU's second camp, where more prospects are expected to attend, is July 15-18.
