ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia coaching staff was on the road Friday, as usual, checking in on commits and targets alike. In what had to the most fortuitous turn of events of the day, tight ends coach John Lilly and inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti just happened to be stopping by Auburn (Ala.) High School right after the nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker, Reuben Foster, decommitted from Auburn University. Both coaches met with Foster, who reopened his recruitment, citing reports that his mentor Trooper Taylor had been let go at Auburn.

Later that night, another coach would also prove lucky as defensive line coach Rodney Garner was on hand to congratulate Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) after the top-ranked defensive tackle won the chance to play for the Georgia Class A championship.

Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon were on hand to see the Bulldogs’ top tailback target, Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga./Norcross), win his semifinal game as well. Alabama’s Kirby Smart was also there, and the battle for Kamara is still neck and neck.

The commitment of juco wideout Jonathon Rumph (Cayce, S.C./Holmes Community College) to Georgia is a big addition to the Bulldogs’ receiving corps -- pun intended. Georgia does not have a returning receiver on the team now or committed in the Class of 2013 who resembles the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Rumph. He is a large target -- something this recruiting class was missing.

As it stands, Georgia has commitments from wide receivers Reggie Davis (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln), Uriah LeMay (Matthews, N.C./Butler), and Rico Johnson (Swainsboro, Ga./Swainsboro). Athletes Tramel Terry (Goose Creek, S.C./ Goose Creek) and J.J. Green (Kingsland, Ga./Camden County) will play multiple roles on the offense as well, including slot receiver. Aside from LeMay, who stands at 6-2, this group of receivers is not known for size, but rather speed and technique. Rumph will be the wideout who creates the most mismatches with opposing corners. He is not fast like Davis or Terry, but in a red-zone situation he will present a nice option.

Georgia signed only one wide receiver in the Class of 2012, and Blake Tibbs redshirted this season. The coaching staff knew it would have to bring in some playmakers with the next class.

Saturday's Georgia-Florida game will not only be about determining who could win the SEC East. The animosity and eventual result of the game is of particular interestto the Georgia commits ant targets that may one day play in the showdown. DawgNation caught up with a number of them to get their takes on the game.

ESPN 150 DT target Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga. /Dooly County) -- "If UF play like they been playing, which is as a team, they will win. But if UGA comes to play and can effectively use their balanced run and passing attack, the Bulldogs will be successful."

ESPN 150 CB commitment Shaq Wiggins (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) -- "Florida versus Georgia is the biggest game of the year for both teams. It is RIVALRY, BLOOD, BATTLES, A LOT OF DISLIKING EACH OTHER. Basically the SEC CHAMPS will come out of this game.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Quite a few of Georgia’s committed prospects were in town to watch the Bulldogs game against the Buffalo Bulls, others caught the telecast. The home crowd left mostly happy with the 45-23 victory, but most did not expect the Bulls to give Georgia as much trouble as they did in the second quarter. The defense made adjustments, freshman Todd Gurley took off and the natural order was restored -- at least the way Georgia fans see it. DawgNation wanted to know what those prospects thought of the game.

WR Rico Johnson (Swainsboro, Ga./Swainsboro): “I liked everything about the game. The guys got after it and I noticed they kept the defense simple. The secondary could have been a little bit better.”

OL Brandon Kublanow (Marietta, Ga./Walton): “I loved the atmosphere and everyone there. The team played great. I know they feel they have work to do to win it all. If I could change anything it would be to have air conditioning throughout the stadium. Other than that it was perfect. Go Dawgs!

While the summer months are considered downtime, the Georgia Bulldogs have continued their torrid recruiting pace this summer, picking up several commitments from prospects in several states. With the ability and, arguably, the dire need to bring in more than 30 signees for the 2013 class, the Bulldogs have been aggressive with offers. That has paid off with a group that already dwarfs that of the freshman class now on campus. As football season approaches, DawgNation takes a look back at the goings on and decisions made in the past few months, along with a look ahead at what to keep an eye on this fall.

Commitments piling up
As school let out across the country, prospects seemingly lined up to make their commitments known to the Bulldogs. ESPN 300 wide receiver Uriah LeMay (Matthews, N.C./Butler) committed to Georgia on June 1. The 6-foot-2, 197-pound wideout picked the Bulldogs over Clemson, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Ohio State, among others. Two days later, another ESPN 300 receiver secured a spot, as Reggie Davis (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) verbally committed. The 6-foot, 162-pound four-star prospect is considered one of the top deep threats in the always-loaded Sunshine State. Less than a week later the Bulldogs picked up their top outside linebacker target, Naim Mustafaa (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta). It was a rare in-state battle for the 6-foot-4, 235-pound four-star, although SEC rival Tennessee continues its pursuit.
