Each week, Tales From The Road will provide news and updates about where Georgia’s coaches have been and what prospects are standing out.
This week’s targets: University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham made the most of his time on the road over the last few days, checking in on two five-star defensive line prospects and his top target at outside linebacker. On Tuesday, Grantham saw defensive tackle Andrew Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith), the No. 3 prospect in the country. That same day, Grantham also went with defensive line coach Chris Wilson to see defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard (Fayetteville, N.C./Pine Forest). The No. 10 prospect in the country, Gaillard has the Bulldogs on top of his list at the moment. Coach Wilson also saw ESPN 150 defensive end Kentavius Street (Greenville, N.C/J.H. Rose), ESPN 150 defensive tackle Elisha Shaw (Tucker, Ga./Tucker), ESPN 150 cornerback Wesley Green (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King) and three-star lineman Kendall Baker (Atlanta/Marist) over the last seven days. On Friday, Grantham was in attendance to watch the ESPN 150 defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross). Last Thursday, wide receivers coach Tony Ball went to check on what could be his top target at wideout for the 2014 class. ESPN 150 prospect Cameron Sims (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish) says Coach Ball came out twice to see him this spring, and he plans to return the favor this summer with a visit to Athens, Ga. Earlier this week, inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti wasted no time in going to see new outside linebacker target and recent Florida decommitment Christian Miller (Spring Valley, S.C./Spring Valley). The ESPN 150 prospect had been hoping to get an offer from the Bulldogs, and now plans to come check Georgia out soon.
Area of interest: South Georgia is home to two targets that Georgia would love to add to their 2014 recruiting class. ESPN 150 cornerback/athlete Malkom Parrish (Quitman, Ga./Brooks County) is looking at both in-state schools, and after visits to both campuses he seems torn between the two. He might be the most talented cornerback the Bulldogs have a great shot at bringing in this recruiting cycle. Recent offensive line target Dyshon Sims (Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes) is thirty minutes down the road, and he hold his offer from Georgia in very high regard. Putting their foot on the gas for both prospects could result in two additions to the commitment list from a pair of in-state prospects with enormous potential.

NORCROSS, Ga. -- ESPN 150 defensive end Lorenzo Carter seems to never stop grinning, even on the football field. His 100-megawatt smile calls to mind another affable defensive end, Michael Strahan, complete with the trademark gap. Even a shoving match with a teammate resulted in Carter falling down laughing about it later.
During the Norcross spring game on Friday, Carter and offensive tackle Horatio Walker tangled as they went at each other in the trenches. Walker held Carter’s jersey and was rewarded with a shot to the helmet.
“Well it was a run, and I don’t think Horatio respects me on the run yet, but it is all good,” Carter said between guffaws. “He tried to bully me around, but I was not having that so I had to hit him back. I was having fun out there.”

Grantham also visited ESPN 150 LB targets Rashaan Evans (Auburn, Ala./Auburn) and Jacob Pugh (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) that day. Defensive line coach Chris Wilson saw safety target Cortez McDowell (Locust Grove, Ga./Locust Grove) and John Lilly saw Callaway 2015 athlete target Terry Godwin (Hogansville, Ga./Callaway). On Thursday, Grantham and Lakatos saw ESPN 150 CB targets Nicholas Ruffin (Atlanta/St. Pius X) and D.J. Smith (Marietta, Ga./Walton), and evaluated Cameron Albright (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb).
Area of interest: North Carolina has been good the Georgia Bulldogs. The running back tandem of Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall can attest to that. When the ESPN 150 was released, 10 players from the Tar Heel State made the initial list, which is only one prospect less than the state of Georgia and the same as the entire state of California. The No. 3 tight end in the nation, Jeb Blazevich, has already committed to Georgia, and the Bulldogs lead for the No. 10 overall prospect in defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard (Fayetteville, N.C./Pine Forest).

With today’s release of the ESPN 150, we thought to take a look at where the Georgia Bulldogs stand with their targets on the list.
1. QB Deshaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) 6-foot-3, 196 pounds
ESPN 150 Rank: 13
Why they want him: Watson is the only quarterback with an offer from the Bulldogs, and deservedly so. He can beat teams with his arm or his legs, and is fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game. The most prolific high school passer ever in Georgia with one season left to play, Watson has already etched his name as one of the best prep quarterbacks in Peach State history. The University of Georgia would like him to do the same down the road in Athens.
Who else wants him: Clemson got a commitment from Watson on signing day 2011, but programs like Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon are hoping he reconsiders the early pledge. He intends to take all five official visits, possibly to the aforementioned schools. An early enrollee, the battle for Watson could get very intense over the next few months.
Odds they get him: 20 percent

BUFORD, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) credits his blindingly pink socks and highlighter yellow shoelaces with helping him win the defensive lineman MVP award at the Atlanta NFTC on Saturday.
The award came with a brilliant gold dog tag that complemented his outfit. But what really caught Carter’s eye, and fashion sense, was the big gold box that he was handed that contained his invitation to The Opening.

The RN Top 10 will appear throughout the camp and combine season and rank prospects based strictly on their on-field performance at that particular event. It does not reflect what their overall prospect ranking will be when the 2014 rankings are unveiled this spring.
BUFORD, Ga. – With 276 players taking part in the Atlanta Nike Football Training Camp on Saturday, there were dozens of prospects in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 classes who had already been offered by FBS programs. Six of the participants were awarded invitations to the The Opening later the summer.
10. Terronne Prescod
Lithonia (Ga.) Columbia |OG|6-foot-4, 320 pounds
The offensive linemen at the Atlanta NFTC were not an overly impressive group, but Prescod stood out, not just because of his hairstyle. He locked up and drove back multiple defensive tackles and showed an impressive base.
Prescod is approaching 10 offers, and has scholarship opportunities with Missouri, Ole Miss and Virginia. At the moment, Prescod says Missouri is standing out. Watch out for Auburn if they offer, as they seem to be the school he feels most at home with right now.
Craig Haubert’s take: “Prescod did a nice job in the offensive line group that was not among the strongest at the NFTC this year. He showed good bend and strong punch and he has outstanding size, both in height and bulk.”

But we still kept readers up to date on football practice and recruiting with a number of updates this week.
On the team side, we took a look at a couple of key positions to watch this spring. The offensive line was by far the biggest question mark last year at this time, but the group returns everyone and should enjoy more reliable depth this spring and fall. And the secondary must replace three starters this season, so we took a look at some of the contenders who can help their causes this spring.
We also provided a quick update on former five-star defensive end Ray Drew, who hopes to continue his progress from late last season and emerge as a starter on the line this fall.

SUWANEE, Ga. – There is never a shortage of highly coveted football prospects in the state of Georgia. While it remains to be seen if anyone in the 2014 class will be rated as highly as 2013 standouts Robert Nkemdiche or Montravius Adams, there are already a couple defensive recruits that can stake claim to being recruited by just about every prominent program in the country. Raekwon McMillan is one, and Lorenzo Carter is the other.

ESPN Watch List athlete Myles Autry (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) has close to 20 offers, some as a running back, some as a receiver but most are just as an all-around offensive threat. He plays the slot, runs out of the backfield and even plays quarterback occasionally for the state champion Blue Devils. Where does Autry hope to line up in college? Simply put, everywhere.
