Georgia Bulldogs: Jason Aldean
ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia’s spring football practice wound to a close this week, clearing the way for both the spring recruiting season and for a first-ever event in 84-year-old Sanford Stadium.
We’ll get to the recruiting in a minute. The big event on campus Saturday evening is the historic stadium’s first concert, headlined by country music superstars Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan -- a pair of native Georgians who also happen to be huge Bulldogs fans.
Fan interest has been enormous -- more than 60,000 are expected to attend the concert -- so we caught up with Aldean to discuss playing his favorite team’s home stadium and also broke down how Saturday’s concert came to be.
Just a week ago, Georgia held its annual G-Day game in the stadium, with the Black team (featuring the starting defense) rallying to beat the Red (and the starting offense). We took a look at the defense’s impressive performance in the game and also caught up with backup quarterback Hutson Mason to discuss his first game in a year after redshirting last season.

The University of Georgia has always had celebrity fans who can often be spotted on the sidelines. In the home opener against Buffalo, Georgia fans cheered as actor Samuel L. Jackson narrated the "Commit to the G" video that played on the scoreboard. Jackson was in Athens recently and took in a Bulldogs’ practice after a round of golf with Mark Fox, the men’s basketball coach.
The Athens music scene is known nationwide for such alternative bands such as R.E.M., Widespread Panic, The B-52’s and the Drive-By Truckers. Recently though, the Georgia sidelines have taken on a more rural flavor as some UGA alumni and fans sit atop the country music charts.
Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, two members of country music’s most popular vocal group, Lady Antebellum, both graduated from Georgia in 2004. They try to take in games when their schedule allows. Jason Aldean, who won two Billboard Music Awards in 2012, has an entire Bulldog room in his house. Luke Bryan is also a huge fan and the winner of multiple CMT Music Awards. He will be performing in Athens on Oct. 11, and many Georgia football players have already tweeted that they would be in attendance.
Bryan and Aldean recently spoke to Southern Living magazine about tailgating and their beloved Bulldogs. Read what they had to say here.
