ATHENS, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List wide receiver Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) recently cut his mammoth offer list down to a top-15 group of schools that he will consider.

“It got crazy at one point with almost everybody that offered me trying to talk to me,” Kitt said. “So I had to cut my list down to 15 schools. After spring practice I will cut it down to eight or 10. At the end of summer I will do five and then go from there.”

Recruiting is never static, especially at this time of the year. Coaches are on the road and visits are being taken. That holds true not just for the Class of 2013 but for this year’s junior class, which is being wooed by college coaches trying to get a jump on the ever-quickening recruiting cycle.

ATLANTA -- One of the Peach State’s top cornerbacks recently had a chance to win the Georgia Junior Bowl with a catch in the end zone. The fact that he was playing receiver and not cornerback in a game that boasts 100 of the best players in the state is a testament to why he is coveted by LSU, Florida State, South Carolina and a host of other schools.

ATLANTA -- Georgia lost its only outside linebacker commit in Naim Mustafaa when he decided to enroll early at Oklahoma State a few days ago. The Bulldogs are also losing two starters at the position as well with Jarvis Jones heading to the NFL a year early and Cornelius Washington graduating. With no immediate help on the horizon, the Georgia coaches will turn to some of the Class of 2014 standouts.

One player whose recruitment is on the verge of taking off is defensive end Dante Sawyer (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett). The 6-foot-3, 245-pound junior has already received verbal offers from Ohio State and North Carolina, with many more possible.

“I am hearing from Ohio State, Clemson, UCLA, Georgia -- every now and then -- and Alabama,” Sawyer said. “Florida is starting to talk to me a little bit, so I’m looking forward to hearing from some more schools sooner or later.”

Coming off a junior season in which he caught 76 passes for 1,236 yards and 11 touchdowns, returned a punt for a touchdown, and helped his team to a 15-0 record and AAAA state championship, ESPN Watch List wideout Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) has become one of the most sought-after Class of 2014 prospects in the Southeast.

As it stands now, two programs are on top for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior.

ATLANTA -- The third annual Rising Seniors program kicked off Thursday with the arrival of 98 of the best players in the state of Georgia in the Class of 2014. The weeklong event is unique among All-Star games because it honors the top juniors, educating the emerging players on the recruiting process and providing a chance to showcase their talent against the best in the Peach State. The All-Star game will be aired live on Monday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN3.com and WatchESPN.

One player participating in this year’s Rising Seniors program has been a household name in recruiting for almost two years now.

ATHENS, Ga. -- The news that Georgia’s recruiting coordinator, Rodney Garner, is accepting the assistant head coach and defensive line coach positions at Auburn University comes at a perilous time for the Bulldogs. There are just fewer than seven weeks until national signing day and Georgia has 30 committed recruits while targeting five to six more nationally ranked prospects.

Some of those prospects gave their thoughts to DawgNation upon hearing the news:

DT Toby Johnson (College Park, Ga./Hutchinson Community College): "That's crazy. I haven't heard anything from anybody about this, so I am just going to make some calls tomorrow and see where this goes. This is why I hate the recruiting process. It will affect me a little bit, but I still like UGA. I just have to see who the new coach is and try and build a relationship with him before February. ... UGA is still my leader until I talk to the coaching staff."

ATHENS, Ga. -- As the dead period in college football approached, the Georgia coaching staff tried to make the most of this past weekend.

Assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner and offensive line coach Will Friend were dispatched to the Georgia Dome to see and be seen by the Bulldogs’ targets playing in the Georgia state championship games.

Between them they witnessed cornerback commit Shaq Wiggins (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek), offensive line commit Josh Cardiello (Buford, Ga./Buford), running back target Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga./Norcross), linebacker target Korie Rogers (Buford, Ga./Buford), athlete target Myles Autry (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) and wide receiver target Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) win state titles. They also saw defensive tackle priority Montravius Adams and his Dooly County (Ga.) High School team come up short in their championship game.

There will be no shortage of talent, or college coaches, on the field at the Georgia Dome this weekend, as the GHSA football state championships are set to take place. All seven games will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting TV, as well as streaming online at gpb.org/sports. Here are some prospects to keep an eye on in each of the seven matchups.

Prince Avenue (11-2) vs. ELCA (12-1): Class A Private, Friday, 2:30 p.m.

The top prospect in the opening matchup of the weekend is ESPN 150 defensive end Isaac Rochell. He committed to Notre Dame over 20 other offers back in June. His teammate, running back Keyante Green, is a ESPN 300 prospect who committed to Purdue during the summer after being previously committed to UCLA. Eagles Landing Christian Academy has two ESPN 2014 Watch List selections to keep an eye on as well in defensive end Andrew Williams and quarterback/athlete Dalton Etheridge. Williams, whose brother Anthony plays defensive end at Georgia Tech, looks to follow Rochell’s path as one of the most coveted prospects in Georgia.

TYRONE, Ga. -- Much of the recent reporting from Sandy Creek (Ga.) High School has referenced skill players like cornerback Shaq Wiggins, quarterback Cole Garvin and wide receiver Demarre Kitt. But just as in college and the NFL, the success the Patriots have seen starts on the lines. Which for Sandy Creek means it starts with offensive tackle Alan Knott.

Knott is committed to South Carolina, having picked the Gamecocks over Miami, Virginia Tech and North Carolina, among others. In his last playoff game against a stingy Burke County (Ga.) High School defense, his Patriots were in an unfamiliar position: trailing after the third quarter.

“We were down and it was kind of nerve-racking right there for a little bit but we persevered through it,” Knott said. “We got Eric Swinney running that football and we made some adjustments on the line.”

TYRONE, Ga. -- With three Georgia coaches watching on the sideline on Friday night, defensive tackle Chris Williams (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) picked an inopportune time to do his first Willie Beamen impression. Like the quarterback from “Any Given Sunday”, Williams was sick to his stomach on the field, but shook it off and kept playing.

“We fought,” Williams said. “I was throwing up a lot tonight. I don’t know why. I think I ate too much of the pregame meal. We had chicken biscuits and potatoes. I have never had that happen before. I guess it was because I ate three chicken biscuits. Eat big, play big.”

Teammate and Georgia commit Shaq Wiggins joked that Williams was eating biscuits “like Starbursts.”

TYRONE, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List wide receiver Demarre Kitt has been popular over the last 10 days. A number of college coaches have stopped by Sandy Creek (Ga.) High School to check in on the 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior who sports offers from 11 major programs such as USC, Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson.

Kitt was verbally committed to Georgia for a few months before reopening his recruitment. The Bulldogs had three coaches, Rodney Garner, Kirk Olivadotti and Scott Lakos, at his game Friday night. While their attention was focused mainly on Georgia commit cornerback Shaq Wiggins, Kitt was happy to see them.
