The Georgia coaching staff hosted its third 7-on-7 tournament in the last eight days on Thursday, with teams from all over the Peach State competing for the coveted trophy that Mark Richt bestowed at the end of the day. Jefferson County (Ga.) High School won the tournament, beating Callaway (Ga.) High school in the final game. The staff used the competition to evaluate several prospects and to identify new targets.

Here are a few things we learned:

UGA making 2015 ATH feel at home

For the third year in a row, 2015 athlete Terry Godwin (Hoganville, Ga./Callaway) put on a show at the tournament. The 6-foot, 170-pound rising junior has grown accustomed to performing well in Athens, and both he and his mother said after leaving that the comfort level was very high at Georgia.

“I love the atmosphere and how the coaches treat us,” Godwin said. “We are like one big happy family. Coach Richt is like my father, Coach [John] Lilly is like my uncle, and coach [Todd] Grantham is like my other uncle.”

Godwin, who is up to 10 offers, plans to check out Ole Miss, Clemson and Tennessee this summer. He and his mother both hinted a decision could come soon, which could be good news for the Bulldogs.

“Georgia is at the top of my list right now,” Godwin said. “I hope to make a decision before my junior year or at least by midseason.”

ATHENS, Ga. -- Week two of Spring camp had the Georgia Bulldogs hitting the practice field in full pads while preparing for a scrimmage on Saturday. Position battles and projected performances dominated the questions we received for this edition of the DawgNation Mailbag.

Adam (Charlotte): What is your view on the post-Aaron Murray quarterback position battle? Brice Ramsey comes out very highly recruited but played in a pure running team and didn't really showcase his talents. Could the big bad SEC be too much for him?

The Georgia Bulldogs coaching staff has been busy working on the Class of 2014, and even the Class of 2015. UGA hosted a junior day Saturday and offered several top sophomores in the last week. On Tuesday morning, DawgNation joined ESPN’s Athens, Ga., affiliate 960 The Ref to talk about recruiting and more. Some of the topics discussed were:
  • How did the Bulldogs’ do on their junior day?
  • Were there any silent commitments?
  • Who are the new prospects that Georgia offered?
  • Does Georgia have a chance with the top out-of-state players?

Listen to the show here.
Defensive end Arden Key (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King) took in the University of Georgia junior day on Saturday and met with Bulldogs defensive line coach Chris Wilson. The new coach made quite the impression on the young sophomore, as by the time Key left, he was tweeting that he wished he could commit to Georgia.

ATHENS, Ga. -- On the second and final day of the Mark Richt 7-on-7 camp, there were fewer teams on the University of Georgia intramural fields, but no shortage of talent. Several prospects emerged at the skill positions, as well as a couple of impressive performances in the lineman 1-on-1 competition held by defensive line coach Rodney Garner and offensive line coach Will Friend.

One prospect stood out above all, and the rising sophomore left with a rare early offer from the Bulldogs.

ATH Terry Godwin (Hoganville, Ga./Callaway) With three-quarters of the Georgia coaching staff watching, including head coach Mark Richt, Godwin put on a show in the semifinal matchup versus Leesburg, Fla. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound rising sophomore made several interceptions on defense, as well as scoring at will at wide receiver. Godwin started on both sides of the ball as a freshman for head coach Pete Wiggins, and he could project to either side at the next level. At one point Godwin made back to back touchdown catches, with an interception in between, causing Richt to look across the field at receivers coach Tony Ball and give two thumbs up while grinning ear to ear. Godwin earned an offer at the end of the tournament, and deservedly so. Coming off another impressive camp performance at Alabama, Godwin looks to be one of the top prospects in Georgia for the 2015 class.
