TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- When Bo Scarbrough left the game in the first quarter on Friday night, it wasn’t a welcome sight. A lot of people collectively held their breath, as the junior running back had seen both his freshman and sophomore seasons cut short due to injury.

However, it’s going to take more than a shot to the surgically-repaired knee of Scarbrough’s to knock him out of a game this year.

“They hit my knee a couple of times, but it felt brand new, like I’ve never torn it before,” he said. “They thought I was going to go down by them hitting it, but it’s going to take more than that.”

The last time running back Bo Scarbrough was on the field for Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Northridge High School, he tore his ACL in a game against Hillcrest, ending his sophomore season before the playoffs. It was the second year in a row that an injury cut his season short.

After rehabbing all spring and all summer, Scarbrough is ready to get back on the field, and what better stage than to do it against Class 6A powerhouse McGill-Toolen in Montgomery on Saturday night.

“That’s a real big game for me,” Scarbrough said. “With me being hurt two years in a row and coming off an ACL injury, I’m ready to get back on the field. My knee feels like it’s never been torn before, so I’m going to treat it just like that.

What was once a two-team race for 2014 running back Sony Michel (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) has opened up after the talented tailback visited the University of Georgia on Friday. Now it appears that Florida State and Miami have a new school with which to compete.

“It is probably not going to be that battle anymore because Georgia is in the mix now,” Michel said. “Georgia’s great. It is something amazing, something different. I am glad I actually took this visit because it is one of my choices now.”

Michel spent the night Friday in Athens, Ga., and left Saturday. He found it hard to name what he liked the most about his time in the Classic City.

TideNation writer Greg Ostendorf talks with 2014 running back prospect Bo Scarbrough, who named Georgia his early leader followed by Alabama, Clemson and Florida.
On the surface it would appear that Reuben Foster’s (Auburn, Ala./Auburn) decommitment from Alabama and subsequent commitment to Auburn would mean little to Georgia. He wasn’t committed to the Bulldogs and still is not.

However, he was trying to convince his best friend, safety Tray Matthews (Newnan, Ga./Newnan), to join him at Alabama and he will continue to try to pull Matthews with him to Auburn. Taking into consideration the fact that Matthews and Foster have a pact to play together in college and are working to extend that pact to include others, the Georgia coaches cannot be comfortable right now.

In speaking to Matthews briefly this afternoon, DawgNation asked whether the Foster news would change his commitment to Georgia. Matthews hesitated, then said, “Yes.”

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Bo Scarbrough, a top running back in the 2014 class, is set to make his college decision this month. The product of Northridge High School will commit at 10:45 a.m. ET July 23 on his school campus, according to his coach Mike Smith.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound tailback has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi State, Troy and UCLA. He most recently visited Georgia, along with Crimson Tide commitment Reuben Foster (Auburn, Ala./Auburn).

"[Recruiting] has become hard on him," Smith said of Scarbrough. "The phones don’t quit ringing. The bull crap don’t stop coming. All of them have the same things they want to say. Basically, that’s all they can say. ‘We want you here. You’re a good player.’ All that kind of stuff.

"I told him we’re going to sit down this summer and the guys you know you don’t want to see, we’re going to be honest with them and tell them that."

DawgNation’s Radi Nabulsi was on ESPN’s Athens affiliate 960 The Ref on Tuesday morning talking about the Isaiah Crowell fallout and what it means to the Georgia program. Plus he answered some other questions during the show, such as:
  • Why has Georgia struck out on its last three premier running backs?
  • Is this situation addition by subtraction?
  • What is the latest in Georgia recruiting?
  • Who is Georgia looking at to replace Crowell?
Listen to the radio show here.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Running back Bo Scarbrough (Tuscaloosa, Ala./North Ridge) hitched a ride to the University of Georgia with the unlikeliest of travel companions on Friday. The class of 2014 standout made the trip from Tuscaloosa to Athens with ESPN 150 Alabama commit Reuben Foster (Auburn, Ala./Auburn). Foster, who normally destroys running backs, went out of his way to help Scarbrough visit Georgia.

“He had never been to Athens before so I said, ‘Let’s go.’ ” Foster said. “He had a great time. He is going to be a beast.”

Back to square one for the Bulldogs. Last year, University of Georgia head coach Mark Richt needed to make a splash in recruiting. Coming off a six-win season in 2010 -- by far the worst of his tenure in Athens -- Richt needed an impact player at running back in the class. The Bulldogs were 73rd in the country in rushing, 10th in the SEC, but Richt was able to put the finishing touches on a top-five class -- one he dubbed the “Dream Team" -- by signing five-star running back and the top prospect in Georgia, Isaiah Crowell.

Friday, following an arrest on felony weapons charges, Crowell was dismissed from the team by Richt, ending Crowell’s career at Georgia after only one season and putting more pressure on his teammates to replace the SEC Freshman of the Year. The latest departure further depletes the overall talent on Georgia’s team, making the 2013 class even more important for the future of the program.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- It was only a matter of time before Bo Scarbrough started getting national recognition.

Whether it was because he lives in the University of Alabama’s backyard or that he’s coming off a torn ACL injury or the fact that he is just a sophomore, Scarbrough previously didn’t quite have the offers that come with being a top prospect.

That has all changed.
