ESPN 300 OG picks UGA
By Radi Nabulsi
ATHENS, Ga. -- The rain that soaked Georgia’s annual Dawg Night prospect camp did little to dampen Georgia’s strong run of commitments. After landing three players on Friday night, the Bulldogs added a fourth on Sunday morning.
After weeks of tweeting about joining Georgia’s 2014 recruiting class, ESPN 300 offensive guard Isaiah Wynn (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood) took the plunge and committed to the coaches. He spent most of Dawg Night observing and talking to prospects, a few of whom asked him why he had not committed sooner.
“Yeah, they wanted me to, and I guess the way I felt when I was on campus was that my heart, my mind and my body were there, so I went ahead and did what was best for me,” Wynn said. “I fell like that is the best fit for me.”
The 6-foot-2, 274-pound rising senior is ranked the No. 115 prospect in the nation, making him the highest-ranked offensive lineman recruit Will Friend has landed since he returned to Athens. Friend also has commitments in the Class of 2014 from offensive tackles Jake Edwards (Franklin, Ga./Heard County) and Dyshon Sims (Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes). Edwards worked on getting Sims to commit on Dawg Night, and both later recruited Wynn to join them.
“I told the coaches just this morning,” Wynn said. “I guess they already figured out that was where I was going. Coach Friend and coach [Bryan] McClendon were very happy about it. I am ready to get this started.”
Wynn, who has close to 30 offers, picked the Bulldogs over the likes of Florida, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn and Vanderbilt. He recently participated in The Opening, impressing observers with his versatility. He is slated to participate in the Under Armour All-American game as well.
Georgia now has 15 commitments in its Class of 2014.
