ESPN 300 DE has UGA in front

By Radi Nabulsi

ATHENS, Ga. -- The potential logjam at outside linebacker in Georgia's recruiting class just got a little tighter. There are no commits at the position so far, but the Bulldogs lead for Rashaan Evans (Auburn, Ala./Auburn), are tied at the top for Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) and are among the top three that Christian Miller (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) is considering. In addition, a fourth ESPN 300 target just completed a weekend visit with the Bulldogs, and Keyon Brown (Wauchula, Fla./Hardee County) still has Georgia out front as well.

“Right now Georgia is No. 1, Florida State is No. 2, and Miami is No. 3,” Brown said. “I am going to visit Miami pretty soon probably and Florida State before the summer is over maybe. My next time at Georgia will be for an official visit.”

Brown’s reasoning for having Georgia on top?

“I know they have a great defense, and the coaching staff there is great,” Brown said. “The position they want me to play, I can see myself fitting at that position better than as a true defensive end. And it is not far from home as well. I mean yeah it is a little ride, but schools past that, well, that is even further. Georgia is right there and not as far as Texas or Tennessee.”

The nation’s No. 208 overall player visited Athens for most of the weekend, accompanied by a large contingent of family.

“I got in Saturday morning about 10:30 and stayed until Monday morning,” Brown said. “My mom, my dad, my brother, my girlfriend, my aunt and uncle and her nephew came too, but they left after one day. My mom said she really likes Georgia, and she thinks I will do well there. My dad thinks the same thing -- they all do. That will factor in my decision a good bit, and I am glad they like it.”

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound rising senior made the most of his time while on campus.

“I looked around at the facilities,” Brown said. “I sat down with [defensive coordinator] Coach [Todd] Grantham and looked at some film and how he would use me. Grantham would have me at the Will or the Sam. He showed me both. I like the whole 3-4 defense – I think it would be a great fit for me. Coach Grantham is a great guy. He came down to my school once and we talked then.”

The four-star standout also spent time with Mark Richt.

“I talked to Coach Richt, toured the campus and hung out with some of the players,” Brown said. “We were talking about his past coaching history and he talked about how I would like the school and how I would fit in. I can see myself fitting in at Georgia. It is a big deal that they play in the SEC, That is pretty much the best football around.”

Brown also spent some time with some Georgia players.

“I was with [James] DeLoach and Toby [Johnson] was there and a couple other players,” Brown said. “It is a beautiful campus and the people I was around were pretty cool. It was a good visit.”

Although Brown has a clear idea of where his top three teams rank, he has no decision date in mind.

“I was thinking about committing on my birthday [Sept. 28] but I am not sure yet,” Brown said.
