ESPN 150 WR Blacknall names top two

By Jared Shanker

MANALAPAN, N.J. -- Four-star wide receiver Saeed Blacknall (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) already has more than 20 offers, so if he is going to camp for an offer, he says it better be worth it.

That school would have to jump one of his early top two.

“It depends on how much I want to go to that school,” Blacknall said. “Is it a place I’d put over Ohio State or LSU? In time we will know.”

The ESPN 150 recruit named LSU his leader following a visit to Baton Rouge in late March but backed off the statement shortly after. Now, the Bayou Bengals are joined by the Buckeyes at the top.

LSU coach Les Miles and Blacknall talk frequently, and the 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver calls Miles one of the funniest coaches he has been around. When the two are on the phone, Miles will talk about the campus and what the university has to offer.

The conversations are much different between Blacknall and LSU receivers coach Adam Henry, though. Blacknall said those are all-business.

“It’s a conversation on how many receivers are coming in, those questions,” he said. “So we have a really good relationship and we talk on the phone for at least a half-hour or an hour.”

Ohio State has not hosted Blacknall on a visit yet, but that could come next month. Blacknall is looking to visit the Buckeyes during the later portion of June. Last week, he and his parents spoke with Urban Meyer, who let it be known that the coaching staff desperately wants Blacknall to make it to Columbus.

“I went south [to visit schools] and he said, ‘You saw a lot of big schools, but Ohio State is not like any other place,’” Blacknall said. “... They are one of my top schools I haven’t seen yet because I’ve been down to LSU. I have to go see them and pass the visual test and see what it really is instead of just talking about it.”

Visits to Michigan and Notre Dame will likely take place around the same time Blacknall visits Ohio State.

One school that Blacknall is high on and he said could be worth camping at: Georgia. He visited the Bulldogs during his swing of visits in the Southeast, despite not yet having significant interest from the program. Since that visit, the interest has been reciprocated. Blacknall received a visit from the coaches shortly after the spring evaluation period began.

“They haven’t offered yet, but I know as soon as they offer they’ll be high on the list,” he said. “I’m just getting a relationship with the coaches, trying to show them my face more and picking up the telephone and letting them know I’m interested so they don’t forget about me.”

On Wednesday, Alabama joined Blacknall's offers list.

“I’m very excited about the offer,” he said via text message, “and just looking forward to building that relationship.”
