OT Harris feels more BCS offers close
By Kipp Adams
ATLANTA -- While the Atlanta Nike Combine is a great platform for skill position prospects to make a name for themselves, the event also provides an opportunity for linemen to showcase their abilities as well. At the SPARQ Combine here last year, offensive tackle Christian Harris (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) arrived and displayed an impressive frame for college coaches to work with.
This year, the 6-foot-5, 275-pound prospect was able to improve his 40 time and vertical jump, despite the weather being less than optimal.
“Not everything went exactly how I wanted but I felt like I did OK,” Harris said. “It was freezing out here so it was a struggle.”
Harris got his first offer from Ohio last year, and after a standout week in the Rising Seniors Junior Bowl program, he has added offers from UNC, South Alabama, Georgia State and Charlotte. The Tar Heels offer was the first BCS scholarship for Harris, and he was surprised to get the news.
“I do not know that much about North Carolina because to be honest I have not even spoke to them before but one day I called them and they said they wanted to offer,” he said. “I hear it is a great environment with great coaches, so I definitely want to visit to see what they have to offer.”
The lifelong Bulldogs fan feels he could be getting closer to a few more scholarships as well.
“I talked to coach Mark Richt recently and he said I am pretty close to being offered,” Harris said. “I think he just wants to see me in spring practice or in season. I definitely hope that is going to come along. Auburn and Maryland are pretty close to offering as well. Coach [J.B.] Grimes told me he really wants me at camp.”
Harris plans to visit Duke, Florida State and Georgia during the spring.
