ATH Truitt takes visit, gets big offer

By Kipp Adams

After getting offers this week from Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, one of the most explosive athletes in Georgia hopped on a plane Thursday morning and took an under-the-radar visit to an out-of-state program. That trip resulted in what he considers his most important scholarship option to date.

“I took a visit to Florida today,” Stanton Truitt said. “I had a feeling they would offer -- and they did. That was the biggest offer, especially getting it in person.”

In 10 games as a junior, Truitt (Monroe, Ga./Monroe Area) rushed for 1,438 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also passing for 764 yards and 8 touchdowns. Some schools have mentioned defensive back as a future home for the 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete, with South Carolina actually offering as a defensive back. After spending the day in Gainesville, Fla., the Gators offered Truitt as a slot receiver.

“I sat in on a position meeting with the coaches, toured the campus, met the academic advisors, and when I came back I went into coach [Will] Muschamp’s office, he offered me,” Truitt said.

The intimate meeting with Muschamp made the trip especially important for Truitt.

“I was really excited to get the offer from Florida, and to hear it from Coach Muschamp’s mouth means a lot,” Truitt said. “That was my favorite part of the visit. He does not play around and he gets right to business.”

After seeing all Florida has to offer, Truitt feels the Gators will continue to be a big player in his recruitment.

“Their program has everything I am looking for academically, and their advisors have been there for a long time,” Truitt said. “You can tell the players there are focused and have big goals and expectations for the future. Florida is going to be one of my top schools all of the way through.”

The Peach State prospect feels that the UF offer might open the eyes of other prominent programs.

“At this point with Florida being such a big offer, I figure Georgia will try to come in and maybe LSU, and some other schools like Vandy will probably back off some,” Tuitt said. “But I am going to just try to do my research and narrow it down whatever options I have to a top five and make a decision possibly during my senior season.”
