Sophomore picks up offer on junior day
By Radi Nabulsi
Only special players pick up offers as sophomores and even fewer of them get early offers from top SEC programs. Defensive end DeAndre Walker (Fairburn, Ga./Langston Hughes) qualifies as special.
He visited Georgia on Saturday for the Bulldogs’ second junior day and despite being one of the youngest players there, Walker left with an offer.
"I was excited to get the UGA offer from Mark Richt," Walker said. "That is the school I always wanted to attend. I have to talk to over with my mom first. I’ll talk to her about it when she gets home."
Walker has offers from North Carolina and Georgia Tech as well. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore was the Defensive Player of the year for Class AAAAAA, Region Three.
Walker had 114 tackles (79 solo) and 18.5 sacks in 12 games last year. The sack total was a record for Langston Hughes High School. Walker also had 23 tackles for loss, 29 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season.
