Demarre Kitt's popularity on the rise
By Radi Nabulsi
TYRONE, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List wide receiver Demarre Kitt has been popular over the last 10 days. A number of college coaches have stopped by Sandy Creek (Ga.) High School to check in on the 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior who sports offers from 11 major programs such as USC, Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson.
Kitt was verbally committed to Georgia for a few months before reopening his recruitment. The Bulldogs had three coaches, Rodney Garner, Kirk Olivadotti and Scott Lakos, at his game Friday night. While their attention was focused mainly on Georgia commit cornerback Shaq Wiggins, Kitt was happy to see them.
“When I decommitted I told them I still wanted to be recruited by them because I still have interest,” Kitt said. “I just wanted to open it up because I thought I did it too early. They are still recruiting me so Coach Garner came by today. I still have a spot there if I want it, a scholarship, and they really want me. I have been talking to Coach [Mark] Richt on Facebook, too.”
Once a Georgia commit, Watch List WR Demarre Kitt still has interest in the Bulldogs but is also hearing from Clemson, USC, Ohio State, Oregon and South Carolina.
The Bulldogs have a lot of company when it comes to recruiting Kitt.
“Clemson, USC, Ohio State, Oregon and Georgia have been talking to me the most -- and South Carolina,” Kitt said.
The Gamecocks coaching staff has made a real push for players from Sandy Creek, trying to sway Kitt, Wiggins, offensive tackle Alan Knott and former Patriot wide receiver Ja’Quay Williams (Tyrone, Ga./Fork Union) to all come South Carolina together. Knott has already committed to South Carolina, and Williams recently took an official visit there before choosing Texas A&M. Wiggins plans to take an official to South Carolina on Jan. 11.
“I talked to Coach [Steve] Spurrier the other day,” Kitt said. “Alan really wants me there. The coaches tell him that so he tries talking to me about it.”
Kitt has taken visits Clemson, Georgia and USC among others.
“That USC game was fun,” Kitt said. “They played Oregon. That was when I really got interested in Oregon too because I saw their offense and I thought maybe I should just contact them and see what they are talking about.”
Apparently the call went well and the Ducks had a reciprocal interest in Kitt.
“They came by the school the other day to talk to me, saying that they really, really want me – they need a big-time receiver,” Kitt said. “So I think an offer is coming real soon.”
