Steven Nelson decommits from UGA
By Radi Nabulsi
Georgia’s 2013 recruiting class took at hit in the secondary Tuesday when cornerback Steven Nelson (Warner Robins, Ga./College of the Sequoias) decommitted from the Bulldogs, according to his coach Fred Zepeda.
“He decommitted from Georgia,” Zepeda said. “He has not committed to anyone else but he is very interested in Oregon State.”
Apparently the Beavers’ coaching staff is the main reason Nelson has dropped the Bulldogs.
“He likes Rod Perry, who coaches the defensive backs at Oregon State,” Zepeda said. “Over the past six months he has developed a very good relationship with Coach Perry. He took an official visit out there on Oct. 6 and really enjoyed himself. He loves that Rod Perry has 17 years of NFL coaching experience and is back in the college level. Those are probably the main reasons he decommitted.”
Nelson has a timeframe in mind for a new decision.
“It will probably be over the Christmas break,” Zepeda said. “His top two schools will be Oregon State and Texas Tech. He has a good relationship with both of those coaches. He told me he would probably wait until he goes home and talks it over with his family a little bit and then go ahead and make a decision around that time.”
