Around the Hedges in 80 Days: R. Samuel

Eighteen days remain until Georgia kicks off its season opener against Buffalo on Sept. 1. In the days counting down to the opener, DawgNation will profile, with our “Around the Hedges in 80 Days” series, a Bulldogs player we expect to make an impact. We will review each player’s career thus far and project his long-term potential as we progress through our alphabetical list, from center David Andrews to receiver Rantavious Wooten.

18. Richard Samuel
Senior, Running back

Fall forecast: Once again, Samuel is juggling a new role as he enters his senior season. He started his Georgia career at tailback and played there in 2008 and 2009, then shifted to linebacker and redshirted in 2010 before moving back to tailback because of depth problems before the 2011 season. Samuel intends to play both tailback and fullback this fall and could be one of the top reserves at both positions -- although Samuel has said he prefers the fullback role. He brings a veteran’s presence to a running back group that lacks much experience and that leadership will come in handy this fall.
