FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- ESPN 150 defensive tackle Kelsey Griffin (Hoschton, Ga./Mill Creek) will spend the week of the July 4 holiday making some travel plans and doing his homework. The Under Armour All-American is looking to do some trimming to his very long offer list.
“I am just trying to visit a couple of more schools so I can make a top five list,” Griffin said. “It is coming real soon, like next week or in a week and a half. I am working on it.”
Some programs have already made the cut.
“A couple of schools are in but I will wait to release that when I release the top five,” Griffin said. “I am basing it on how much I like the school, the coaches and where I’m going to fit in on defense. There is a lot going into it so that is why it has been taking me a while.”
A trip to the Sunshine State will help with the decision process.
“I am trying to visit Florida and Florida State,” Griffin said. “Those are the only visits I have planned right now. With Florida I have never really been there so I don’t know much about them but I know it is a good school. They invited me down. I am just going to go down there and check them out.
“It is the same with Florida State. I don’t really know much about them. But Florida schools are supposed to be good and I have seen them play. I just want to give them a chance. The ACC is top-notch football. I’ll probably catch them the week after the dead week -- catch a lift and go see them.”
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound senior will be focusing on much more than the rosters while on his visits.
“The depth charts are a factor, but not that big of a deal,” Griffin said. “If I like the school, then I am not going to be looking at the depth chart because I can work hard and work my way into that depth chart. I am not scared of that.”
