ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) picks up offers as quickly as he sheds blockers, if that is possible. The list of schools reads like a Who’s Who of the top programs in the nation.
Knowing that the battle to keep Adams in state will be tough, the Georgia coaches invited the defensive standout to their most recent junior day, an exclusive affair labeled VID Day -- Very Important Dawg Day. Mark Richt and Todd Grantham wanted to impress this Very Important Target, and it worked. Sort of.
“They helped themselves a little bit,” Adams said. “It went good. I liked everything, really.”
Getting to spend time with the Georgia players topped Adam’s list of what he enjoyed most about his visit. In particular, hanging out with Jonathan Jenkins was big. The two are similar in stature and Adams got to talk with Jenkins about playing for Rodney Garner.
Adams doesn’t care where he plays, and the coaches in Athens told him he could play “just everything on the D-line.” But whether he plays end or nose, he has only one criterion for the position.
“Anything that will let me get tackles,” Adams said. “They want to try to get me one-on-one with somebody so I can go back there and sack the QB.”
Based on his performance last season, which included 84 tackles, 45 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, no matter where he starts out he always winds up in the same place.
“Yeah, I get them in the backfield,” Adams said.
Such crazy numbers have led to all the offers and why Georgia wants him, Adams said, “real bad.” To that end, the Georgia coaches spent a lot of time with Adams trying to sell him on becoming a Bulldog.
“They said I would play early … and how much they really want me,” Adams said.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound junior says he doesn’t have a list of top schools. After taking in Georgia, Adams will head to Tennessee this weekend, and Alabama the following weekend.
When asked what he was looking for in the schools he visited, Adams said, “I’m just looking at everything.”
