Top in-state prospects: How they fared

February, 18, 2013
Georgia signed 23 of the 70 players whom ESPN ranked as top-10 in-state prospects between 2006 and 2012, 18 more than the next-closest schools (Auburn and Alabama with five apiece). But how important has it actually been to sign the state’s top 10 players each year? We tracked the careers of all 70 players to determine how many of them became impact performers at the schools where they signed.

Here is what we found:

Seven-year totals

  • Start -- Did the player start at least 10 games in a season?
  • Conf. -- All-Conference: Did the player earn first- or second-team all-conference honors from the press?
  • Amer. -- All-America: Did the player earn first- or second-team All-America honors from the press?
  • 3 yr. -- Did the player stay for at least three seasons at the program where he signed?
  • Draft -- Was the player drafted into the NFL from the program where he signed?
