Juco safety Shaquille Fluker of Meridian, Miss., is getting close to picking his next destination after his stint at East Mississippi Community College. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defensive back says he wants to get the decision out of the way.
“I want to make a decision at least by the second week of August, before we kick off the season,” Fluker said.
With his decision coming soon, several schools are making their pitch to the hard-hitting safety.
“Right now I have been talking to Georgia, Ole Miss, Kansas, Iowa State and Nebraska,” Fluker said.
His original plan was to visit as many of the schools recruiting him as possible but he hasn’t quite made it to that many campuses. In fact he only made it to one so far.
“I have been trying to wait a little bit and take some visits but the only the only visit I have really had was to Georgia,” Fluker said.
It was on that visit to Athens that Fluker was surprised by the Georgia coaches with an offer. He had been expecting them to wait until after the season. But with the secondary depth for Georgia looking very low in 2013, Mark Richt offered Fluker before he left campus. Fluker almost accepted then and there.
“It was kind of hard not to commit to Georgia when they offered,” Fluker told DawgNation on June 24.
Now a month later, the Bulldogs are still in good shape with Fluker, as well as some other top programs.
“I haven’t narrowed it down to any schools yet but right now I’m interested in Georgia and probably Kansas and Nebraska,” Fluker said.
