FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Cornerback Chris Murphy (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) picked up his first offer at the beginning of May and has seen his recruitment start to catch fire. On Wednesday, while taking ion a 7-on-7 tournament, he spoke to DawgNation about all the increased attention.
“I have offers from the University of North Carolina and Vanderbilt,” Murphy said. “I think Purdue is going to be the next offer. Illinois is coming close to offering and UCLA too.”
The Boilermakers did extend Murphy an offer the next day and more are likely on the way.
“I am hearing from Alabama, Miami and Florida State, Oklahoma State, Georgia,” Murphy said. “A Georgia offer would be nice but I need to go up there and see it.”
The offer Murphy really wants would be one from the Seminoles.
“I used to live in Florida so a Florida State offer would be huge,” Murphy said. “I lived in Tampa, Fla. That is where I started playing football. I grew up a Florida State fan.”
Until that offer comes Murphy is focusing on the schools that have already offered the 5-foot-10, 177-pound junior.
“Vanderbilt is a top-tier school,” Murphy said. “I really like it. They are in the top schools on my list so far. They are getting high consideration.”
The Tar Heels are also getting a lot of thought from Murphy, who picked up an invitation to the Rising Seniors Bowl at a camp in April.
“I have been to UNC for the camp and I went up for junior day,” Murphy said. “I really liked what I saw when I went up there. I’d like to go back and explore more, see more of the campus and get to know the coaches a little better than I already do.”
